Accuracy is the entire value of this site. If we get something wrong, we want to know, and we will fix it fast.

Every correction we make is published. It appears at the top of the entry it applies to, and permanently in the corrections log, which lists every change we have ever made in one place. Corrections are appended, never edited away — if we quietly rewrote entries, you would have no way to know what this site used to claim, and the record would be worth nothing.

Requesting a correction

Email [email protected] with:

  • The URL of the entry
  • The claim you believe is wrong
  • The source that shows otherwise (a news article, court filing, department record, or other verifiable document)

What we will do

We log three kinds of note, and they mean different things:

  • Correction — we published something factually wrong. The entry is fixed and the correction says what it previously said and what changed. We aim to act within 72 hours of verifying the error.
  • Clarification — what we published was accurate but could be misread. The wording is sharpened and the change is recorded.
  • Update — the case itself developed: charges filed or dropped, an officer cleared, a settlement reached, a ruling reversed. This is not an error on our part; it is the record doing its job. We treat these with the same urgency.

Disputed accounts are presented as disputed. If your dispute is with a source's account rather than our summary of it, we will make sure the entry reflects that the account is contested — but we will not remove accurately attributed reporting because a party disagrees with it.

For officers and agencies

If you are named in an entry and believe the public record is incomplete — for example, an investigation cleared you and our sources don't reflect it — send the record. We will add it. The purpose of this site is an accurate account of what happened and what followed, including outcomes favorable to the officer.

If you believe you are named on sourcing that doesn't meet the standard in our methodology, say so. We have withheld a name on exactly those grounds before, and logged it publicly.
